Planning a last minute party can be stressful. However, you can prevent most haphazard moments from occurring with some quick planning at the beginning. Last minute party planning can take place anywhere from the week before to the day of the party. When planning a last minute party, it’s important to remain realistic of what you can pull off. For example, it’s possible to throw a more intricate and detailed event if you have a week to plan it, versus expecting a full-out formal event the day of. How can you make the most out of last minute party planning?

Develop Your Plan
Take the time to figure out the budget, theme, guest list, formality, food/drinks and decor and music. These are the basic elements to a party. If you have a week before your party, you can still get away with throwing a cocktail event, as long as you have a solid list of guests.

Purchase Everything Ahead of Time
If you need to order take out or catering, be sure to book this as soon as possible. The more time you have, the better. If you want to throw a low-key pot luck, then ask your guests to bring a dish a week or two ahead. Also, buy beverages and be sure to start chilling your drinks at least 24 hours before the event.

Buy decor based on your theme. You may have picked a distinct theme or simply chosen a few colors. Either way, visit the store ahead of time to purchase your decorations. The more intricate your decorations, the more time you will need to find your ideal decor.

Create your music play list ahead of time. You have other potential options for music, such as playing a radio station or online music player from your computer.
