Throwing a party can be a challenge, particularly your kid’s birthday party. However, with enough planning, you can ward off any potential problems before they actually happen. So, take the time out and prepare your child’s party. If your child is older, you can include him or her in the party planning process. If your child is younger, you can still provide him or her with possible options, such as picking a theme and decor. You can even invite parents to stay and socialize during the party.

Theme
Let your child choose a party theme. Having a theme is convenient because you can base your decor, activities and food around the central theme. Some examples for a theme include beach parties, pirate parties or a theme that’s simply based on his or her favorite TV show or movie.

Decor
Depending on your child’s age, some basic decor includes balloons, banners, streamers, party hats and sidewalk chalk drawings. If you have a specific theme, you may want to purchase decor online that is associated to the theme. For example, if your theme is based on a popular movie, you may find paper plates, cups and goody bags with the theme  all over it.

Activities
Having activities is particularly important for young kids. Consider having craft projects, pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey, treasure hunts, charades or musical chairs. Create a schedule for your party and distribute activities evenly throughout the time of the party. Activities are a great way to keep active kids occupied and having fun. You may even want to offer prizes for the winners of the games.

Food
Consider easy food, such as pizza delivered to your house. Have water, soda and punch available and chilled. Be sure to have cake. If you want a different option instead of cake, consider having cupcakes instead. Candy is always a popular option for kids.
