A family picnic seems like an idyllic activity that’s found in books, TV shows and the movies. You can make your dream of having a family picnic a reality by taking the time to plan one. Timing is important. Obviously, the best time to have a picnic is when the weather is suitable. Also, the weekend or a holiday is usually best for the entire family to get together and have fun.
Find a Picnic Spot
Choose a beautiful spot with a nice view. Consider having a picnic at a park. You may want to find another scenic locale, such as one located on campgrounds.
Materials
Gather your materials. Want a truly ideal picnic? Get a red and white checkered blanket and lay it out for your family to gather on. Be sure you bring utensils, such as paper plates and plastic cutlery. If you want to keep food away from the ants, you may want to pack a foldout table and some chairs. Bring some garbage bags to toss waste.
Food
Pack portable food in a large picnic basket. Include fresh fruit, such as grapes, watermelon, strawberries and orange wedges. Consider bringing sandwiches as the main course. Have condiments available, such as salt and pepper. You may want to bring cookies as a dessert.
Drinks
Bring a cooler filled with chilled drinks, such as water, juices and fruit punch.
After Eating
If you want to relax, consider bringing beach chairs and towels. If you plan on making your picnic a day trip, think up some activities for your children to enjoy. Have your children take a ball to play catch. Or engage them with their surroundings by going on a nature walk and asking them questions about the environment. The picnic doesn’t have to end with the food. It can transform into more fun.
