Working from home is a possible option for mother’s who want to work, but also desire to stay at home with their kids. There are various options for telecommuting jobs, including writing, designing and virtual assisting. Though working from home may seem like the answer to many mothers’ lifestyle goals, it can still be a challenge to find work-life balance. How can you achieve work-life balance as a work from home mom?
Set Personal Work Goals
Many work from home parents have clients that allow them to telecommute and turn in projects during a specified time. Most work from home moms are independent contractors that are essentially running their own business. It’s up to the independent contractor to accept a certain amount of work. Choose a monetary goal per day, per week or per month. Better yet, choose an amount of time you’re willing to dedicate to work. Be realistic about the time you’re willing to spend working. Take into account potential distractions.
Work Around Your Child’s Schedule
If your child goes to school, you can easily find the time to work during the school day. However, if you still have a young child, it may be difficult to find the peace and quiet that you need to focus on your job. Some moms choose to wake up before their child to get some quality work done. Other moms wait until their child is napping or asleep.
Take Your Job Seriously
Just because you don’t have an office doesn’t mean that you don’t have a real job. In fact, if you are an independent contractor, you are running your own business. Your job is a real job, so take the time to set up office hours and be sure to get your work done at the agreed time between you and your client.
