Home Care Relieves the Burden of Care from Our Children

There comes a time when we are unable to care for ourselves.  This is just something we are faced with as we age.  We know this and deal with this.  However, sometimes we do not realize how hard this can be on our children.  They want to know we are okay and want to help.  They offer to bring us into their home or maybe to move in with us to help with our care.

But what happens when our children, no matter the good intention, cannot take care of us?  What will happen then?  One thing to consider is how much care we need.  Will we need to be placed into a nursing home or assisted care facility or will we be able to stay in our residence with help from a caregiver?  If we are not in need of constant medical surveillance and medical care, then home care might be an easy transition and option.  When we only need assistance with daily living and daily tasks, staying in our home and having extra help could be a stress-free situation for our children.

What can we expect with home care?  We could have someone with us twenty four hours a day and seven days a week if needed.  They can help us with things like preparing our meals, bathing us, paying bills, transportation to appointments and other things we take for granted.  We can enjoy continuing to live our daily lives without major interruption but we can also not place a big burden on your children.

Like the cost of nursing homes and assisted living facilities, this type of care is not inexpensive.  But also like those other options, we can find government funding to help cover costs.  Home care might be just the right option to help our children when they can no longer care for us.
