Are you looking into the mirror? Like what you see? Chances are you probably don’t. You’ve got the bags under your eyes, hair all tousled. Maybe you’re wearing some of those baggy PJ pants. You were up at 3 AM with the baby, breastfeeding; which, by the way, your breasts are a little sore. Not to mention you were up again this time at 7 AM to get your other two reluctant middle-schoolers ready for a day of learning.
And there you are looking at the mirror the next day–looking exactly the same. Worn out. Utterly destroyed by the juggernaut that is ‘children.’
You work hard. While you might not like what you see in the mirror physically and wonder if you can ever get back to that beauty you once had, know this: your husband while he’s at work is thinking about you. Everything about you. Yes, you probably wouldn’t accept hearing that, because you still see that raggedy ol’ Ann in the mirror; but you still have to hear it. Here’s a challenge: ask any good married man out there this one question: “what do you like about your woman?”
Everything. That would be the answer. Everything. Wear as many baggy pants as you like, have your hair thrown up in a messed-up bun, whatever–it doesn’t matter. That man would still be enamored with you no matter how you like, no matter how much cellulite you have, no matter how tired your eyes look. You’re a mommy. You work hard.
Beauty starts right there, with knowing that the man in your life drops to his knees at the sight of you. Its your personality, your smile–even when you haven’t brushed your teeth! Your hair might not be brushed or done up, but it’s still your hair, and he loves the scent of it. Don’t ever forget this: you are a beautiful mommy.
