Balancing Work & Play: Moms Are Pros

Multi tasking may be the most important skill a mother can develop in today’s hectic world.   Not only for herself, but aas a skill to teach and set an example of for her children.  Not only is it an important ability, in order to achieve goals, time management has become absolutely critical for success in a world that expects an enormous amount from mothers and children alike.

In part, this focus on multi tasking comes from the exponential growth in opportunities for women that are considered acceptable, socially.  It’s created a climate where a woman is not only able to pursue an education, a career, and motherhood, but where she may in fact be expected to pursue all three.  While these expectations may be of debatable worth, the ability to choose to pursue a number of goals simultaneously may make for better moms, better career women, and women who are better educated.  Because the skills that are required to succeed at each are enhanced by those skills that make it possible to succeed at all three at once.

And these moms are setting excellent examples for their children.  One of the most important multi tasking skills, as any woman knows, is the ability to plan playtime or relaxation time for one’s self.  Moms who have a full plate are perhaps more understanding of children who are balancing a number of extra curricular activities, school, and personal hobbies.  These mothers are more likely to stress good time management as well as time to decompress effectively.

These women are passing these skills on to their male significant others as well.  Traditionally, a man’s responsibility was simply to bring home a paycheck.  Women take for granted that they have additional responsibilities at home, and often expect when working that their partner will also contribute to the household chores and parenting. In doing so, they set a higher standard for men.
